Rimmel Mascaras and Bronzer Review

I’ve bought some Rimmel products sometime ago and had given them a good test and I’m finally here to share them on my blog of what I thought about. Bear in mind that what mentioned in this post is purely my own opinion and may not be the same for everyone else who had used this product before.

First I guess I should start off with the bronzer I bought. After all I was searching for a nice matte bronzer and I saw Rimmel had some in their product range. I ended up buying the Sun Shimmer Bronzing Compact Powder in Light Matte.

The bronzer is a smooth pressed powder and the packaging is very standard but sturdy.  It’s not completely matte and does a very small hint of shimmer in it, but barely noticeable.  It smells nice and the colour is not bad, but perhaps it is too light for me?  Maybe the medium might had suited my skin tone more because this one is not showing up as well as I thought it would when I swatched it at the store.

Turned out a little blurry :(

I bought 2 mascaras at once from Rimmel at Priceline because I really wanted to test them and I have to say the first ever mascara I bought from Rimmel gave me MAJOR disappointment so I was rather reluctant to try.  However I’ve seen some review and so I thought I just give it a shot as not all mascaras are horrible.

Pink Tube: The Max Volume Flash Mascara - Ultra Black

The Max Volume Flash Mascara – Ultra Black

I see that Jackee from Jackee’s Makeup Bag (http://jackeetmmakeup.blogspot.com/) had said was great on her. So I picked up this one and also noticed some other reviews on it after I googled on it too.

The brush is a good size and it doesn’t clump my eyelashes. It does give me good length but not great volume, which is something I need for my short lashes. After sometime it also flakes on me so I wasn’t happy about that.

Left: Black Tube
Right: Pink Tube
X10 Extreme Black Volume Flash Mascara – Extreme Black

I didn’t like the brush when I first pulled it out. Rather short and stubby which means it is more likely to clump your lashes and it was true on that. I noticed the formula of this mascara compared to the previous one in the pink tube is thicker, thus it gave length and volume which I liked very much. This one also didn’t flake on me or give me panda eyes after a whole day. However it means I have to put on this mascara with more patient since if I rush it I’ll most likely clump my eyelashes together so I don’t use this one if I’m on a rush to get the eyes done.
Both the packaging is pretty sleek and one is even in pink so a bonus for the ladies who love pink!

Has anyone else tried either of these mascaras? Would be nice to hear what you guys think :)

Forest Fairy aka Not Giving up on Greens

I’ve been using a lot of Chi Chi eyeshadows lately and I don’t know why I never use to use them enough. Today’s look is a fun look, so not something I would wear out like normal.

This is my 3rd false eyelashes look!!

I’m not a regular false eyelashes wearer, but occasionally I would feel like wearing a pair to give myself even bigger eyes. I can’t wear eyelashes with glasses thus the reason I don’t frequently wear them since I’m wearing glasses most the time.
Completed look

Products used:

Chi Chi Super Stack (Eyeshadows)

Jesse’s Girl Eyeshadow Primer (Testing process)

Prestige Cosmetics Liquid Eyeliner – 01 Black

Rimmel The Max Volume Flash Mascara – 003 Ultra Black (Testing process)

NYX Candy Glitter Liner – 13 Jade

DUO Eyelash Adhesive Waterproof – Clear/white

Anmas Rucci Eyelashes (from Tamanala on Ebay)

Products used

#1 First half of eye lids
#2 second half of eyelids
#3 Crease line and a bit above
#4 Lower lash line

#5 Outer corners of eyes
#6 Brow bone Highlight

I actually like this green look better than the previous ones that I have done and I think that if I lose the glitter liner, false eyelashes and have thinner black eyeliner it can be wearable.
Close up of eye with false eyelashes, need some more work on the eyeliner :p

With flash, excuse my super oily skin!

I like this photo!

Wasn't impressed with NYX candy glitter liner, the glitter came off and got onto my eyelids :( I think i prefer Chi Chi glitter liners, but I didn't have one in green

I had in mind what a forest fairy might look like and this is what I ended up coming with. I had fun doing this look and it could be used as a simple Halloween look too.

Do you like my etods with falsies in them?

Should I continue to do more from time to time?

I’ve worn falsies for a while now, but I rarely show them on my blog.

Recent EOTDs featuring Chi Chi and Suki

Dropping in to share two recent looks that I had taken photos for. Both very simple and something I wore to work that isn’t too over powering or dramatic.

The first one is from using my Chi Chi Blockbuster Mineral pack that I had gotten a long time ago and never really used. The eyeshadows in there are of great quality and I have no idea why I don’t use them. Perhaps it is bulky so I don’t reach for it since it’s kind of big and takes up space.

I did the combination of colours on a card first before going ahead to actually applying it on my eyes.

Colours swatched on a card before application

The look turned out alright and I quite like it, because it still has some colour to it compared to the usual neutral colours I normally wear.

Products used:

Chi Chi Real Minerals Blockbuster (Limited Edition pack) – Eye Palette

Coastal Scents Gel Liner – True Black

Australis Stay Put Long Lasting Retractable Eyeliner – Atlantic

Not shown, but other products I used that day for this Eotd:

CoverGirl Aqua CG Smoothers (Testing process) – Tinted Moisturiser 810 Light to Medium

CoverGirl Professional Loose Powder – 115 Translucent Medium

Here are more photos to share…

The second look is more of a colour look but not too heavy that I can’t wear to work.  I just used one of my Suki palette that I bought in Hong Kong from Sasa during my March/April vacation this year.  Something I rarely reach for since I have them tucked away in a drawer.

Suki Eye/blush Palette code No: 5388 (no name of the actual palette and words are in Japanese)

Finished look without eyeliner
I didn’t use eyeliner for this simple look and these colours can easily be substituted from other eyeshadows.

Autumn/Fall Inspired EOTD

Australia is going into spring so I do feel a tad odd do a look based on Autumn/fall inspired, but this look is for Turtle Beauty 160 Followers giveaway. I thought it would be fun and then I could post an extra EOTD on my blog as well.

I don’t’ have a photo of where my inspiration comes from, but when I think of fall I pick the leaves falling from the trees. The orange, brown and green colours that all mix together is a very nice combination. It somehow makes me feel kind of warm as well.

Here is how I do colour combination, I don’t think I ever mentioned it ever on my blog that I actually swatch eyeshadows onto a white card to find the right combinations I want to wear on my eyes.

My swatches while picking out the colours for this look

This look is indeed wearable and nothing outrageous or dramatic. I’m not a fan of orange I have to say and when I first applied the orange on my lids I was thinking it was going to be too bright. However in the end I think the colours worked out pretty well.

This is completely beauty/makeup unrelated but I just had to share this photo. It’s a photo of the little fluffy ball that is very important in my life. Meet Miss Coco, half Bichon Frise and Pekingese. She’s currently 9 years old and she likes to sleep/nap in the bathroom so we put a pet bed in there for her. This is a very rare sleeping photo of her since she hates the camera. She has an under bite and just recently recovered from being run over by a cyclist. I cried because I was in Hong Kong during March/April when she had that accident. I hope that cyclist feels guilty for the rest of his life after leaving my dog in a bloody mess! You should have paid for the medical fees you asshole!

Rimmel Bold Behaviour EOTD/FOTD

Back again with another EOTD and this time featuring Rimmel Colour Rush Quad Eye Shadow in 014 Bold Behaviour. My dear friend Cheryl had mentioned she didn’t like these eye shadow palettes in particular, so I assume she had some poor experience with them. However I remember I actually own one of that quad eye shadow so I went digging in my pile of eyeshadows and found them quickly since I had just recently organised them.

Anyway here is what the looked like in the end…

FOTD... no hair because it was not done when I took this photo :p

I actually wore this look today with my glasses...
I actually kind of remember why I only used this Rimmel Quad once after I bought it. The pigmentation isn’t that great. The green colour is perfectly beautiful but the other three aren’t that great at all. It takes a lot of effort to actually build up the colours, thus it is not something I want to spend too much time doing when you’re in a rush to whack that makeup on.

Anyway what do you guys think?

Had anyone else used the Rimmel Quad from this range?

Have a great weekend!!

Drugstore cosmetics haul and review

Yet again I strike the stores and put another hole in my bank account. My never ending shopping when it comes to cosmetics is not a surprise anymore. I’ve given up; it’s just too hard to restrain yourself from something you love so much. I don’t ever regret spending the money on all those beauty products I buy. Maybe except those that isn’t all that great and I paid quite a bit for. There are still so many products I want to try from so many variety of brands out there, but when will I ever stop? Never probably, hahaha…

My new love at the moment is Harajuku cute little perfume bottles. They’re so cute and sadly I’m missing one out of the 5 original  I want to buy the red one when it’s on sale. I saw the summer and winter editions one and they were so cute too! I want them all! Hahaha! I don’t even know if I will actually use them, I think when I bought them I was only planning to use them as displays.

So I was supposed to be just popping into Target to get something for mum, but the cosmetic section was too hard to skip by. The sales signs and promotion signs were even harder to be ignored. I did limit myself to spending and only bought stuff I don’t have and had never tired or would like to try. In the end I didn’t really spend all that much since every item I bought was discounted.

I bought a couple of things from Maybelline, since they were having a $4 off their products in Target. So I ended up with 3 Quad palettes, brow pencil and mascara that people have been telling me is worth using. I also bought mascara from Rimmel, their newest on with the 1-2-3 looks mascara. Looks absolutely weird in my opinion but we don’t know until we try. It was on special otherwise I don’t think I would have bought it then. The last two are brushes, one from Manicare Cosmetica collection and one from Australis. It’s the first time I’ve seen brushes by Australis, so I’m guessing they’re quite new since they only had a small selection of them. Even though I wasn’t able to feel the texture of the brush like you could with the Manicare ones, I thought it looked pretty good in the package. So what the heck I’ll just give it a shot, it was cheap anyway.

The Maybelline eye shadows are alright, not great but not that bad. I was disappointed with Eyestudio PP-1 Winter Iris. It was not very smooth yet it was also not very pigmented so it was hard to actually get the colours to show. As you can see from the swatch I did on my hand it was pretty poor. However the Expert wear Eyeshadow 06 Amethyst Smoke and 30 Seashore Frost was not too bad. I did like the purple colour in amethyst smoke a lot though so I’m not too bothered that I bought them. I’ll find some way to use them and I’m sure of it. It’s kind of nice that it has a diagram on the back showing you where each colour goes so I guess if you’re a beginner these ones will really help you with application of shadows to get a smokey look.

Maybelline Define a brow is not that bad, the only down side to it is what ever you twist out and don’t use cannot be retracted! I didn’t know so I ended not being able to put the lid on or it’ll snap it and waste it. It’s not a good design for a pencil if it isn’t retractable. So be careful if you ever decide to buy it and try to remember only twist out a little bit at a time in order to maximise the use of it.
In love with Maybelline great lash mascara in Very Black. My short eyelashes are in love with the product because it done wonders to them. It extends them and thickens them to the right degree. Not clumping for me as of yet so I’m definitely really happy I decided to try this one.

The new Rimmel 1-2-3 look mascara is a BIG no-no for me. Just like any other mascara except it clumps for me so I’m not sure about anyone else. I tried the 3 and I was horrified to find that it was like scooping the mascara out of the bottle. I could barely see the mascara wand! Haven’t tried 2 because 1 seems like any normal mascara and 3 was horrible so 2 must be somewhere in between. I wonder how I’m going to use this. It was a waste of money in my opinion but I’m sure there are people out there who would appreciate it. This mascara is definitely not for me.

Now for the brushes, they’re both pretty good and they’re soft and non-prickly like some I’ve tried. However to use the Australis angled liner brush I find it hard to actually apply gel liner with it. I think it’s too fat and too wide so it makes it harder to get it close to the lash line and to great thinner lines at time. However it does work nice as an eyebrow brush for those who colour the brows in shadow or gel.

Have anyone else tried any of the products I mentioned above? If you have what do you think about them? It would be great to hear other people’s opinions.
