Updated Vanity Organisation/Collection

This is long overdue and I know it was highly requested but I only just got around to editing and getting photos done for it. This post is pic heavy so it may take longer to load if you have slower internet connection.

I would like to start of by saying this post is not for the purpose of showing off my makeup collection. I know I have a lot and I know I’ve spent a lot too and I don’t need people to tell me that. I am here to share upon many requests to see how I store my stuff. I will say first off I’m not the most organised person and to me easy access and convenience is one first priority. I like to have everything easy to grab when I get up in the morning or have to rush out in a hurry.

Hopefully this post will actually give you ideas how you would like to organise your stash. I don’t own a fancy vanity table; it is still the same one from the time I first posted my organisation. It’s a typical old study table that is from IKEA over 8 years ago. You can use any old table you have at home if you are on a budget; I find there is no reason to spend money when you already have a perfectly good table at home.

I also don’t have much room so I had to find what works best for me.

Organisation Tip #2 – Plastic trays for False Eyelashes

Been a bit MIA lately and I apologise as this week my makeup course started and so things been a bit hectic. However I have to say I love every moment of it at the moment and I can’t wait to see how I will progress.

Anyway I picked up a pack of 4 plastic trays at Target for $7 AUD and thought I share with you guys on how I used them. They were the slim kind of tray so I had a good idea how I was going to use them. The now currently stores my false eyelashes and I love the way it holds them. Before I just had them in a whole heaps in a draw and it was so frustrating trying to find the pair you want to use. Now that I’ve got them all nicely stacked into the trays I can flip through them faster and find the ones I want.

Perfect for my false eyelashes collection that just get stored in a messy way in my drawers

I didn’t fill them all up so I ended up putting my glue and the rhinestones in there as well.  I also had one completely empty one so I was thinking whether I should put that away and save it or find another way to use it.

put my glue and rhinestones in together

All nice and neat and easy to see what eyelashes I have

Knowing me if I put things away I will forget and by the time I find them they’ll be ancient and I would want them anymore.  So I decided to use it to keep my stuff tidy on my desk.  I placed my hand sanitizer and other little things that I use on a daily basis.  At least they’re now always going to be neat on my table and not all over the place.  It’s also easier to wipe down the table as I can move it all at once and not have to more them and then stack them back neatly in place.

Anyway I got some posts that I need to do for you guys and hopefully I can get them up very soon. Some cheaper drugstore products I’ve discovered and also some looks I think floating around in a folder.

I’m currently doing major hard drive cleaning so my photos are kind of all over the place. Please bear with me and I’ll keep you guys updated on how my makeup course is going and try post more often with looks and products I’ve tried.

Organisation Tip #1

Hi guys I’m thinking of starting a small series where I post about some tips on organisation for makeup and beauty products. It’s kind of like updating once in a while when I find new ways to organise my makeup.

Anyway I thought I share this with you guys and I’m pretty sure you’ve seen other people do them too. I was shopping and I popped into the shop Thingz temporary sale store to have a quick browse. I never thought I would come out buying cutlery trays for $4.99 each. They only had 3 so I only bought 3, but it would have been great if I could have gotten another 2 or 3 more of these trays. The quality is really good and the size of the tray is great too.

It has the grip on the bottom so I didn’t lay out my own grips to stop products from sliding all over the place. Originally I don’t like using my blue drawers under my table, because the products would be sliding all over the place and it was hard to use to organise small objects like eyeshadows and pigments.

This little simple cutlery tray did the trick, it is a perfect fit in the tray and a great size for storing eyeshadows and pigments too!

Only $4.99

They’re handy because if you’re every changing the organisation around you can just pull out the whole tray and the makeup neatly organised is still going to be neatly organised as it was.  I love this new find and will be looking out for more trays and containers to use as storage for my growing collection.

Here are some photos of how I used them.

Eve Pearl, Majolica Majorca, Jesse's Girl, MSCHIC, NYX, Savvy, Bourjois, Prestige, etc

Most of my eyeshadows are stored neatly into the sections of the cutlery tray and I like how it is so easy to grab what I need instead of flipping through drawers to find what I want.

Jesse's Girl Pigments, Sleek, NYX

This one is my absolute favourite!  Majority of the pigments are all in here now instead of my little black office drawers on my table.  I even turned them upside down and sideways so I can see the colours and grab the ones I want without having to flip through.

MSCHIC Face Canvas, Eve Pearl Anti-shine, MSCHIC pigments, Facial Cream

I used the third tray to store a bit of my pigments that didn’t fit into the other tray, but also my primers, powder, concealer, blushes, creams and liquid liners and sample size mascaras.

Hope you guys enjoyed this post and hopefully it gives you guys and idea on how to store your makeup.

Broken Favourite Eyeshadow and Modelista Nail Polish Review & Swatches

Hope all my beauty followers are having a great weekend, mine started off a bit too exciting and thus I’m hung-over at the moment. Partied too much for a Friday night, especially when I was already super tired from working day to night.

Anyway I just wanted to share a quick tip (I’m sure you probably seen this somewhere), on how to save your favourite broken eyeshadow. I was devastated when I dropped one of my favourite single eyeshadow onto tiled floor. I was so upset because it got broken to little pieces and to make it worse I haven’t seen this colour in the collection since I bought it a few years ago.

One of my favourite eyeshadow is from Max Factor, 128 Passionate Plum and clumsy ol’ me decided to drop it. Anyhow I ventured to a cheap budget store and bought myself some of these craft containers. That’s right, you probably guessed it right I just poured the loose eyeshadow into the container and with a craft knife I scraped out the rest of the product still intact to the eyeshadow pan. Wah Lah! Now I can use it again without having to open it and have a heap of product fall out and be wasted. Quick and simple solution.

These containers come in all sort of sizes and quality. I got some really cheap ones, but I think next time I might go to an actual craft store and spend on some that a little better in quality.

Don't forget to lable the containers though! I just use these white tab labels you can get nearly everywhere that sell stationery and write the name of the product on to stick to the side.

Anyway to the better part of the post, is of course more review on nail polishes which is something I’ve gotten into buying lately. I went to Target (Australia) and was browsing through the cosmetics section when I saw Modelista was having 40% off their products and thought I give them a shot.

Original prices for these nail polishes are $8.95, but I got them for $5.35 each. Seems reasonable for nail polishes if you live in Australia right?

Colours I bought were….
Bling Bling
On Location – Santa Monica
On Location - Mykonos

I’m sorry, but I find them still overpriced after trying them out. I mean the colours are nice, but to have to apply 4 coats of the colour to get a decent colour build is kind of ridiculous to me. To top it off, it is slow drying so it’ll take you forever to do four coats of the colour and to think I also do a clear top coat too!

The polishes are very runny, kind of like a very watery liquid that looks like it’ll just slide off. First coat of the colour was ridiculously clear and I thought I wasn’t applying enough. I was wrong that’s just how the product is and I am definitely not like them much. They do however have a nice selection of colours and if you have the patient to 4 colour coat you probably wouldn’t mind them.

Compared to my usual Rimmel that only require 2 coats and for some colours at most a third light coat, I think the price for Rimmel is more affordable even if the quantity is a bit less to the Modelista ones.

Anyone else tried Modelista Nail Polishes? What do you think about them?

I have currently 28 followers, which means I’m only 22 followers away from my first giveaway. Excited and can’t wait until I actually reach 50! I’ve been collecting things for the giveaway too :)

A Peek at my Vanity and Makeup collection

The most popular topics of all time are sharing one’s vanity set up and makeup collection. Unfortunately I’m not yet one of those who have an awesome yet large amount of makeup. I’m getting there though. Mine is a pretty simple set up, made from the use of an old study table my cousin left behind when he was staying at our house during his couple years of studies. I’m pretty sure it was one of those very cheap IKEA tables you can get but probably not anymore. This was when I was still just a teenage girl.

Instead of wasting it I made use of it, no point in buying a table when you got one right? I mean I would love a great vanity table, but saving money whenever you can is always a good plan. So this is my magic little corner in my litter bedroom. Where I do my hair and makeup every morning for work and where I share my love for makeup with my girlfriends.

Welcome to my Vanity

Let’s start off to the side next to my new IKEA wardrobe. A small set up where most of my jewelleries are stored and the Blue drawers only contains non-cosmetics stuff, so I won’t go into details about them. Those drawers I don’t remember where I got them. They’ve been with me forever and I originally didn’t use them for cosmetics anyway. Nowadays these ones contain my little bits and pieces. My full length mirror is just one of those cheap ones you can pick up at the bargain store. I was supposed to mount it but decided not since now I have an option to move it where and when I want to.

The earring stand is something my mum got me as a gift two years ago when she visited my cousin in Sydney and it was from a shop that was closing down. I’ve seen these earring stands and even better ones on eBay so if you’re looking for them you’ll find some there.

Now this little corner holds all my perfume, hair products and face products. The white stand is from IKEA, a product from their bathroom range which can be used like I do now or mounted onto the wall. Originally I had it sitting on the floor, but it wasn’t so good since I have a little fluff ball that runs around the house, who acts like a princess going where she wants and when she wants. I sat it on the stool for better reach when I sit down in my cheap foldable chair. That mini stool is something you can’t buy. Believe it or not my father made it and its one very strong stool so I love it.

Yet another set of these blue drawers, this one just holds most of my most least used cosmetics or palettes that are too big to be stored anywhere else. IT has some face products and the last two draws are hair accessories. As you can see I have my hair straightener on top and my curling iron behind it as well as a hair dryer in the wicker basket. All handy and in my reach as I bust my little ass along to get ready for work.

Little organiser I picked up at Priceline, I believe they still sell them at the moment but I’m not sure for how long. It holds my curlers, and brushes I don’t used all that frequently. The pink tube was originally something I bought many years ago when I was into making those lucky stars. I just popped the lid off and now I use it to store dirty brushes that need cleaning. I clean my brushes everyday but only washed them once every two weeks.

This little container is pretty handy to me which also something I picked up at Priceline from the same brand as the previous stand. It contains my cotton balls, Q-tips and cotton pads. These are frequently used, thus I keep them on the table all the time.

All my brushes are stabbed into these beads thing in a little stationery organiser container I picked up at Officeworks. A place that sells office supplies, they’re little boxes with sections that can be stacked with small clips. Since I only have one then I used it for my brushes. It was too tall for some of the shorter brushes so seeing some YouTube videos, lots of people were using these flower vase fillers they get from their local craft store. I thought it was a good idea so I did the same only to find we don’t sell those types here so I ended up substituting it with little clear beads. These beads are the ones for filling stuffed toys. Yes you know how some soft toys have some beads in them, well it is the exact same thing and it works just as well. Everything else is pretty standard, plastic cup holding my liners and my Ecotools at he back in their originally bamboo cup. The compartments holding my lipsticks (most frequently used) and mascara are actually lipstick holders. They’re by Revlon and I got these for free at a Pharmacy. The girl at the counter was very nice and she just asked if I wanted any of them, because they had heaps. I ended up taking two because I thought it was cute. They don’t fit all sorts of lipsticks so it was average, but I’m sure they fit all Revlon lipsticks though. I like my mascara within reach rather than have to rummage through the drawer for them.

My mirrors, the small one is a magnifying one on one side and normal on the other which I used mainly for plucking my eyes or applying mascara. The big mirror I’m not sure if any of you seen it before but you can get it at IKEA and it’s cheap!

My newest collection of perfume, missing the red one though so I’ll have to go hunting for it. I think they’re uber cute and the scents are a great combination. They do smell similar but I can’t be bothered figuring out which ones they’re similar with.

Behind my Harajuku lovers perfume is this business card stand from Officeworks. It was a good idea, but unfortunately some single eyeshadows are too fat to fit in them, thus I store my least used shadows there. I probably put them back in the draw and find another use for this stand.

This is two filing drawers stacked together; I purchased them from Officeworks so there is a lot of stuff similar to this one. This is the makeup heaven part of my vanity, where all my stuff is stored. Nothing particularly special so don’t’ expect too much.

The reason why I liked these drawers were because they’re clear at the front and the side. So I know what is in each drawer without having to label them.

Top draw is Foundation and powders.

Second draw is lip products.

Third draw is concealers and primer and makeup base. I think I might switch the lip and this draw around. Not sure yet.

Fourth drawer is solely for my NYX collection which I have shared with you guys earlier already. I don’t really have sections in the drawers; I just try to lay things out neatly.

Fifth drawer contains miscellaneous palettes.

Sixth are also palettes like the Manly 120 and my Cameleon ones that I recently bought from Hong Kong.

Seventh is MAC, Estee Lauder and Clinique as well as my eyeshadow base and Red Earth eye primer.

Eighth draw is drugstore eyeshadows collected over the years.

And lastly the bottom one is makeup wipes and the sponges I use for my foundation application.
